VBC Takes A Bite Out Of The Big Apple

VBC 7^th Grade Boys 43 • New York Elite 34

VBC lit up NY when they played in the most explosive game the NY Elite team had seen in two years.

Within the first 16 minutes of the first quarter VBC had scored 18 points. The atmosphere was electric the energy was high.

It’s opening night of the movie by Michael Jackson, This Is It, the Yankees are piloting game six in Anaheim, the NY fans were wall to wall in the Brooklyn Elementary School gym and they had little room for more drama. However, drama is exactly what VBC had in-store for this undefeated elite team. VBC was down by only 4 points at the half with the score NY 24 - VBC 20.

All the way from Haverhill, MA the reality of actually being in NY, playing an undefeated NY Elite team, this talented group hadn’t quite realized what they had just accomplished – and it wasn’t over. Coach Taylor asked one question, “What is it going to take to win this game boys?” And without hesitation the answer came, “Take care of the ball coach.”

Going into the 3^rd quarter VBC was down by 4 and their leading scorer, Juwan Gooding, had three fouls. Then, out of nowhere, VBC went on a 10 point scoring frenzy. The aggressive D of Luke Nicolosi combined with the outstretched hands of Terrance Mann VBC was able to gain control of the game. By the end of the 3^rd quarter NY Elite was wondering what had just happened now down by 6 they were scratching their heads.

At the start of the 4^th quarter VBC had a 6-point lead with the score 34-28 and they would only increase that lead by almost 10 points by the end of the game.

This 7^th Grade team worked hard for every point they made, they wanted it more and they took the game that they came to play.

“The best part,” said Coach Taylor, “we’re only getting better everyday.”
